McNeil's Career-High 25 Points Pushes Women's Basketball Past Cayuga
The Herkimer College women's basketball team picked up a hard-fought 59-48 win on the road against Cayuga Community College.
After a back-and-forth first half, the Generals stepped up in the second half, using strong defense and rebounding to pull away for the victory.
Sophomore Imani McNeil (Colonie, NY) had a dominant game, finishing with 25 points on 12-for-20 shooting and 11 rebounds, making an impact inside and helping Herkimer stay in control late.
Freshman Kavashia Archie (Utica, NY) added 10 points, her fourth consecutive game in double-figures.
Sophomore Sage Geisler (Queens, NY) chipped in with seven points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists, while sophomore Charity Dygert (Herkimer, NY) contributed six points, four rebounds, and three assists. Herkimer's effort on the boards was a major factor, as they out-rebounded Cayuga 47-35 and limited second-chance opportunities for the Spartans.
Defensively, Herkimer made life difficult for Cayuga, holding them to just 28.6% shooting from the field. The Generals' ability to force turnovers and control the pace in the second half proved to be the difference.
Herkimer has a quick turnaround, heading to Finger Lakes CC to take on the Lakers at 12:00 PM tomorrow.
