Game 2
Penn State Mont Alto
Catonsville, MD – The Cardinals dropped both games of their doubleheader on Tuesday against Penn State Mont Alto. After a solid sweep against Hagerstown over the weekend, Catonsville was unable to build off the momentum in their next outing.
Game 1
Penn State got off to a hot start in Game 1, scoring five of their six runs in the first two innings. However, Cardinals starting pitcher Emily Fagan was able to settle in and keep the game close for the Cardinals. Despite the early struggles, Fagan went on to pitch all seven innings for Catonsville, allowing six runs (five earned).
The bad news for the Cardinals was that MacKenzie Stake was on the mound for Penn State. Stake was fantastic, pitching all seven innings while allowing just two runs. She also struck out eight batters. Stake held off the Cardinals offense to secure her fifth win of the season in Game 1.
Game 2
Game 2 was all about the offenses, resulting in a 15-10 Penn State win. The Cardinals received contributions throughout their entire lineup, including four players with multiple hits.
Brianna Twigg had a great game out of the leadoff spot for Catonsville, recording three hits, two runs scored, and an RBI. Alana Watts also had yet another great game, scorching two doubles while driving in two runs. Sarah Devilbiss had her best game of the season as well, hitting her first homerun of the year in a multi-hit performance.
However, the offense was still not enough to take down Penn State. The top of the lineup got it done with two-hole hitter Terri Williams reaching base six times and driving in three runs. Paige Loudenslager struggled on the mound, but she provided herself with some much-needed run support with three hits and two RBI of her own.
Ultimately, the Cardinals were unable to match the offensive firepower of Penn State in Game 2.
