Jayhawks Almost Pull Off Upset; Record Breaking Season Ends in Regional Semis

AUBURN, NY - The Jamestown Community College (JCC) men's soccer team was minutes away from the upset of the season, taking #2 nationally ranked Cayuga Community College to the brink in the Region 3 semifinals.

Jamestown was down 1-0 early but fought back throughout the first half. Freshman Braidan Govan even things up with a beautiful strike in the 29th minute.

Govan then put JCC ahead as the half wound down with another pretty attempt. This one found the back of the net in the 42nd minute, sending the Jayhawks to the break with a 2-1 advantage.

Cayuga showed why they are undefeated coming out of the half by scoring a pair of goals to reclaim the one-goal edge, up 3-2.

JCC didn't stop fighting. Another freshman, Gauthier Acloque, sent a magnificent shot to the top left corner to beat the goalie and even things back up in the 80th minute.

The heartbreak came with just two minutes left on the clock when Cayuga was able to pot the game-winner.

JCC finished the season with an 8-9-1 record, 6-6-2 against regional competition.

The season was also full of records, not just being broken but shattered. Sophomore David Luque is now the single-season record holder for goals (19) and points (50); he also holds the career marks with 32 goals, 18 assists, and 82 points. Fellow sophomore Dominique Malhomme is now the single-season record holder for assist (13) and sits behind Luque in second for career goals (25), assists (16), and points (66).

In net, JCC's Cian Galvin currently leads the nation in minutes played with 1,342, almost 100 minutes ahead of second place.

Jamestown fielded 14 sophomores this season, so it'll be a new look team in 2025.
