No. 11 seed Johnson County suffers opening round loss to No. 6 Macomb, 77-46

DANVILLE, Ill. - No. 11 Johnson County's hopes for a national championship were quickly dashed as No. 6 seed Macomb defeated the Cavaliers 77-46 in the opening round of the 2025 NJCAA Division II National Tournament Mary Miller Gymnasium in Danville, Ill, Monday night.  

With the loss, Johnson County (29-5) drops to the consolation bracket and will face the loser of No. 14 seed Kansas City Kansas and No. 3 seed Kirkwood on Wednesday, March 19 at 3 p.m. CST.

Macomb jumped out on a 15-2 run the start the game and the Cavaliers were down 25 after the first 20 minutes. Macomb drained 11 3-point baskets while JCCC only made four of 22 attempts.

Sophomore guard Steven Samuels led JCCC with 13 points followed by freshman guard Gavin Harvey with 11. The team's leading scorer, sophomore forward Brandon Mann, was held to a season-low two points.

Macomb had three player post double digits led by Jotham Nweke and Josh Hines each with 16 points. Marlon Williams added 13 points.
