Colts Sweep the Skylanders of Sussex County Community College

On Thursday April 10th the SUNY Orange Colts hosted the Skylanders of Sussex County Community College for an afternoon double header. In game one the Colts scored six runs in the first inning which helped them defeat the Skylanders by a score od 9-1. To start out the game the Skylanders were the first to put up points on the board after a double on a line drive to left fielder Caroline Farrell driving in the Skylanders first and only run of the game.
In this game the Colts amassed 12 hits with the nine hitter Caroline Farrell who led the Colts after going 3/3 on the day. Fr. Hannah Moulton and So. Nicole Imhoff were a one-two punch in the middle of the lineup as they both doubled and drove in two runs. Clean-up hitter Gianna Catletti collected two hits in three at bats while also pitching the full five innings on the mound. Earning her fourth win on the year Gianna gave up four hits and one run over five innings, striking out nine batters and in 21 batters faced Catletti did not walk a single batter.
There were four Colts who reached second base after some heads up base running after smashing the ball into the outfield. Fr. Hannah Moulton and Sydney Benware along with So. Nicole Imhoff and Lindsay Keane all reached 2nd base on one swing.
In game two the Colts took care of business in under five innings in what was a miserable rainy/windy Thursday night. After five cold innings of softball the Colts secure their 7th victory on the year bringing them to an even 7-7 through their first fourteen games.
Freshman second baseman #3 Madeline Roberts drove in an amazing five runs on two hits to help lead the Colts past the Skylanders by a score of 19-5. After doubling and driving in three runs in the first inning Roberts was eager for more as she then tripled on a line drive to right field driving in her fourth and fifth runs of the game.
After suffering a run in the top of the first inning the Colts found themselves trailing 1-0 before they came out and flipped the game completely upside down in the bottom of the first, scoring seven runs on just three hits. The Colts would then add to their early lead in their very next plate appearances, Nicole Imhoff was the first to score in the bottom of the second inning after singling on a groundball down the right field line to make the game 8-1. Sydney Benware and Julia Sorrentino would each drive in a run to close out the bottom of the second inning making the score 10-1. In the bottom of the very next inning the Colts scored nine runs on eight hits, five singles resulting in a scored run coming from Lindsay Keane, Sydney Benware, Caroline Farrell, Emily Ketcham. Hannah Moulton and Madeline Roberts each earned extra base hits with Hannah earning a double driving in one run and Madeline who tripled scoring two.
Sydney Benware earns her third win of the year. Pitching 5.0 innings allowing three hits and three runs (one earned), striking out six batters and walking two.
In this game the Colts scoreed 19 runs in just three innings. Thanks to the wonderful play inside the batters box and the amazing plays on the defensive end the Colts picked up the win earning the sweep over the Skylanders. The Colts amassed 14 hits in this game with multiple athletes finishing with two or more hits. The Colts displayed tons of patience inside the batters box accumulating 10 ball four walks with Emily Ketcham and Gianna Catletti leading the way with two each.
