The Lakeland men's basketball team traveled to Owens Community College today to face the Owens Express in league play. After a sluggish first half, the Lakers had a big run early in the second half to earn a 90-87 victory. The Express played a strong first half with good defensive pressure that gave Owens a 38-37 lead at the break. The Lakers were able to turn up the defensive intensity and had a much better effort in the second half to help fuel the win.
The Lakers had a balanced scoring attack as 4 players finished in double digits. Aaron Ward and Kaleb Wanamaker led the way for the Lakers with 21 points each while Devin Belle finished his afternoon with 19 points. Ben Hamilton recorded 10 points while Adam Williams added 9 points. Amarion Glenn chipped in 7 points and Keenan Hughes hit a big 3-pointer early in the Lakers win.
T's Talk: "Credit Owens as they came out and executed a good game plan. It wasn't the start I was hoping for from us; however, we were able to right the ship and get it done in the second half. I was pleased with our second half effort. We need to put this one behind us quickly as we have a big challenge coming up Wednesday."
Next Up: The Lakers will continue OCCAC play on Wednesday (1/29) when they face the Cuyahoga Community College Triceratops in Laker gym. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
