Cowboys Overwhelm Defending D2 Region 2 Champions South Arkansas CC

Warner, OK- After a sloppy and somewhat uninspired victory Monday night, the Connors State Cowboys looked much more focused and ready to play as they jumped out early and quickly dispatched the South Arkansas Community College Stars 96-46 Tuesday at Melvin Self Fieldhouse.

"I thought we were much, much better tonight than we were last night, locked in better defensively and that's what we've got to do to win games," said Connors head coach Bill Muse. "We've got to play good defense and have to play with effort to be successful and I thought we did that tonight."

The Cowboys led from start to finish as they raced out to a 15-8 lead in the first seven minutes and never looked back, leading 44-25 at intermission. Connors had six players in double figures which was also pleasing to Muse.

"We shared the ball well tonight and everybody got into the game," said Muse. "It's a good way to go into the Thanksgiving break and I thought the first half really set the tone. This team was in the Juco D-II national tournament last year so they're a program with some tradition."

Arkansas freshman Deshaun Spence led all scorers with 16 points while center Edwin Daniel had 14, Ethan Dietz scored 12 and Jaylen Lee, Kevin Stubblefield, and DJ Dormu all had 11 points for the Cowboys now 9-1 on the season.

Saturday the Cowgirls will return to Self Fieldhouse for a 2 p.m. contest against Grayson and then the Cowboys will be in action 6 p.m. Monday against the Arkansas Tech JV and 7 p.m. taking on Central Baptist.
