
Golden Eagles rally in 3rd quarter to clip Chargers
GALESBURG — The Sandburg women's basketball team took a lead into halftime, but a big third quarter for Rock Valley sent the Golden Eagles past the Chargers 69-57 on Saturday afternoon.
KEY MOMENTS
• The Chargers opened the game with an 11-2 lead, and Sandburg scored eight of the first 10 points of the second quarter for a 30-15 advantage. Brook Pieper's putback with 20 seconds left in the opening half put the Chargers a 34-26 at the break.
• Rock Valley hit five third-quarter 3-pointers as the Golden Eagles outscored 23-5 in the period. A 7-0 run early in the fourth helped Rock Valley balloon its lead to 55-41.
SANDBURG STANDOUT
Pieper ended the day with team-highs of 15 points and 10 rebounds. The sophomore from Abingdon-Avon collected her sixth double-double of the season and third in the last four games. Pieper was 7 of 11 from the floor in addition to posting four assists and four blocks.
