FORT MYERS, Fla.- Samantha Serrano tied an FSW single game record with seven three pointers made as the #17 Florida SouthWestern Buccaneers blew past the visiting Santa Fe Saints 75-56 in Citrus Conference action Wednesday night at Suncoast Credit Union Arena in Fort Myers.
Serrano's big night started right off the bat as the freshman opened the scoring with a triple from the wing to give FSW a quick 3-0 lead less than a minute into the game. A pair of buckets from Sarah Owona and threes from Serrano and Britt extended the FSW lead to 18-5 late in the quarter before the teams traded points to a 20-7 Buccaneer advantage at the end of 10 minutes of action.
A three point play from Ivy Brown early in the second kept it a 13 point game in favor of FSW and a short jumper from Georgi Buzzetti extended the lead to 36-15 with 2:45 to go in the half. Serrano bookended the first half scoring, hitting another three with time winding down to give FSW a commanding 45-21 lead as the teams went to the locker rooms at the break.
The Bucs continued to execute like a well oiled machine on the offensive end as four straight from Brown made it a 52-23 game and a three from Britt gave FSW a 31 point lead at 57-26 at the midway point of the third. The onslaught for the Bucs continued as Roksana Sajdak scored four straight for FSW to end the quarter to give the Bucs a 65-34 lead at the end of three.
Serrano hit her seventh three of the game to tie an FSW single game record with 5:58 remaining on the clock as the Bucs took their largest lead of the game at 73-39. The Bucs went cold from there, failing to put the ball in the hole for the final 4:53 of the contest as Santa Fe closed the game on a 14-0 run, but it was too little too late as FSW dribbled out a 75-56 win to pick up their 10th win in conference play.
Serrano hit seven threes to tie the single game program record while finishing with a game high 26 points in the victory. Britt added 18 and Brown 12 on a perfect 4-4 from the field while Buzzetti tied a career high with 16 rebounds for FSW.
FSW bounces back from their first loss in over two months with a win to improve to 16-4 on the year while remaining in the top spot in the Citrus Conference standings at 10-1. Santa Fe drops their eighth straight to fall to 7-15 overall and 3-9 in conference action.
The Bucs are back in action at home on Saturday at 2:00 PM when they host Daytona State in Suncoast Credit Union Arena on the front end of a big Citrus Conference doubleheader.
