5th Ranked Tigers Top Grizzlies in Single Game
Butler Upended by Nationally Ranked Cowley
EL DORADO, Kan. – Butler baseball lost a midweek seven inning contest to the nationally fifth ranked Cowley Tigers, 15-4, on Wednesday afternoon at McDonald Stadium.
With the two teams trying to get games in before projected inclement weather the rest of the week, they played one single nine inning game that ended in a seven-inning run rule, rather than a doubleheader due to Cowley having played the day before in Oklahoma. The original series was slated to be a doubleheader in El Dorado on Thursday and then the Grizzlies traveling to Arkansas City on Saturday. The rest of the series is now in flux and any changes will be posted on all @ButlerGrizzlies social media platforms.
Butler was outhit 13-4 in the game with Cowley using three big innings scoring four in the first, five in the fourth and four in the fifth. Cowley was led by Logan Smith who finished 4-5 with six RBI and three runs scored. The Tiger starting pitcher Kyler Zagar (W, 8-1) tossed 4.2 innings allowing three runs, striking out three and walking three. Butler used three pitchers with starter Caden Hinther (L, 1-4) starting and going 3.2 innings allowing eight runs on seven hits. Maddux Schrupp and Van Haneberg threw in relief with Haneberg allowing a lone run on two hits in 2.2 innings of action, striking out two. Jackson Ellison and Breck Romero each had two hits for Butler's only offensive production of the day.
