Bears Basketball earns hard fought conference victory over Dolphins.

The Baton Rouge Bears kicked off LCCAC play this evening at the Bonne Sante Wellness Center against the Delgado Dolphins, in front of an enthusiastic crowd. The game turned into a classic battle, with the Bears ultimately pulling away in the second half to secure a 66-55 victory.
The first half saw a hard-fought contest, with both teams exchanging points and the Bears maintaining a slim lead. Midway through the half, the game was tied at 14. It was a low-scoring defensive struggle, and the Bears held a narrow 27-24 advantage at halftime.
The second half started similarly to the first, with both teams trading baskets. However, the Bears began to find some offensive rhythm midway through the half, expanding their lead to nine points at 48-39 with 10 minutes left. This offensive surge was led by sophomores Kailen Phillips and Daushante Cormier-Bellard. The Bears increased their lead to 16 points at 57-41 with six minutes remaining, marking the largest lead of the game.
The Dolphins, however, did not give up easily. They fought back and cut the deficit to ten points with four minutes to go, but the Bears managed to fend off the challenge and secured the win, finishing with a score of 66-55.
Kailen Phillips was the standout performer for the Bears, scoring a game-high 26 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. Lionel Lavadain led the Dolphins with 23 points, and the Dolphins had three players score in double figures.
With this victory, the Bears improved to 10-8 overall (1-0 in conference play), while the Dolphins fell to 2-14 (0-1). The Bears now lead the all-time series against the Dolphins with 31 wins to 15 losses.

Courtney McCarthy added 9 points and 2 rebounds.
Awak Machar and Troy Joseph each scored 6 points.

The Bears will travel to Shreveport, Louisiana, this Saturday, February 1, 2025, to take on conference rivals, the Southern Shreveport Port City Jags. The game is scheduled to start at 4 PM at Green Oaks High School.
