Delta College Falls Short Against Montcalm CC in Tight Battle, 72-64
SIDNEY, Mich. – Despite a hard-fought effort, Delta College was unable to overcome Montcalm Community College in a 72-64 loss on Wednesday night. The Pioneers (10-15, 5-7) kept the game close throughout but struggled with three-point shooting and free throws, allowing Montcalm (12-14, 6-6) to secure the win.
Carver Leads Montcalm to Victory Montcalm's Taylen Carver was the star of the night, dropping 23 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including an impressive 5-of-6 from beyond the arc. Mason Dunn contributed 10 points and nine rebounds, while Caleb Clements added eight points off the bench.
The Mustangs shot 46.6% from the field and controlled the boards with a 38-34 rebounding advantage. Their three-point efficiency (34.6%) proved to be a key difference in the game.
Delta Struggles from Deep and Free-Throw Line Delta College had multiple players contribute, but overall efficiency was an issue. Ja'Vion Blackwell led the way with 11 points and five steals, while Evan Booker added 10 points.
However, the Pioneers hit just 2-of-18 from three-point range (11.1%) and left valuable points at the free-throw line, converting only 20-of-35 attempts (57.1%).
Game Flow and Turning Point Montcalm set the tone early, taking a 41-35 lead into halftime. Delta kept pace in the second half but couldn't string together enough stops to close the gap. Despite forcing 18 turnovers, the Pioneers couldn't capitalize offensively.
