Cougars Battle Hard in Season Opener, Fall to Hurricanes 89-83
The Frederick Community College men's basketball team opened their season with a competitive match against the Louisburg College Hurricanes on their home court but ultimately lost 89-83.
Louisburg set the tone early, making effective three-point shots and capitalizing on second-chance opportunities to establish a 47-41 lead at halftime. FCC countered with a strong offensive showing, shooting 54.8% from the field, led by Thierry Patchou's impressive post-performance, scoring 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting. However, FCC struggled to defend the perimeter, allowing the Hurricanes to make 11 three-pointers.
In the second half, FCC tightened their defense, limiting Louisburg's fast break opportunities. Sophomore guard Mike Davis was instrumental around the rim, contributing 16 points and grabbing nine rebounds. As the game progressed, FCC narrowed the deficit to just two points, thanks to important contributions from Kentavious Dancy, who added 12 points off the bench, and Kylan Johnson, who facilitated the offense with nine assists.
With a current record of 1-1 overall, the Cougars are now preparing for a matchup against Harford Community College on the road, right before the Thanksgiving break. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, November 27, at 7 p.m. at the APG Federal Credit Union Arena.
