DMACC women's basketball team gets easy win over ILCC, 81-35

Sophomore Mary Walker of Fonda and freshman Breeley Clayburg of Coon Rapids recorded double-doubles with 14 points apiece and 10 and 11 rebounds respectively as the DMACC women's basketball team picked up an easy 81-35 win over Iowa Lakes Community College (ILCC) January 8 inside the DMACC gymnasium.

 

Freshman Missy Evezic of Council Bluffs reached double figures with 10 points and sophomore Joy Beran of Riceville and freshmen Kaylee Stratton of Tiffin and Whitney Jensen of Remsen tallied nine points apiece as the Bears improved to 11-5 overall and 4-2 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC).

 

DMACC controlled the tempo throughout the game. The Bears led 21-8 at the end of the first quarter and had a 36-19 advantage at halftime. They put any doubt as to the outcome away in the third period when they outscored the Lakers 28-12 for a 64-31 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

 

DMACC shot 42 percent, making 35 of 84 field goal attempts. The Bears were 6-of-20 from three-point range and 5-of-10 from the free throw line.

 

ILCC, coached by former DMACC assistant coach Ashley Martin, fell to 7-11 and 2-5. The Lakers shot 26 percent, hitting 15 of 58 field goal attempts. They made just one of 18 three-point attempts and went 4-of-6 from the free throw line.

 

DMACC came away with a 54-31 advantage on the boards behind Clayburg and Walker. Beran added six rebounds, Evezic had five and Jensen and freshmen Chloe Costello of Northwood and Hanna Wagenbach of Burlington had four apiece.

 

Beran topped the Bears in assists with four and Clayburg and freshman Reagan Wheeler of Cedar Falls added three apiece. Clayburg and Stratton led DMACC in steals with five apiece.

 

The DMACC women's basketball team will face Marshalltown Community College (MCC) Jan. 11 at Marshalltown. The Tigers are 11-5 overall and 3-3 in the ICCAC.
