
Lakers Hold Off Stars
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Mid Michigan College men's basketball team held off a late rally by Lansing Community College and won 127-119 Wednesday night from Morey Courts. The Lakers (9-3) won their final game of the 2024 calendar year and take a six game winning streak into the Holiday break.
Both sides traded baskets in the first half, with neither team gaining a real advantage. The Lakers led 19-12 five minutes into the contest, but the Stars (8-6) tied things at 25-25 less than four minutes later. Mid eventually took a 50-39 lead with 4:23 left in the opening half, forcing a Lansing timeout. The Lakers outscored the Stars 18-11 over the final four minutes of the first half, and took a 68-50 lead into the halftime break.
Despite the 18-point deficit, the Stars refused to quit. LCC outscored the Lakers in the final 20 minutes 69-59 but the comeback attempt fell short.
De'Antre Griffin led Mid in scoring with 34 points, while also pulling down seven rebounds. James Wright had another double-double with 26 points and 13 rebounds. Joe Iung scored a career high 25 points along with seven assists, while Amonti Greene posted 17 points and eight assists.
Mid will return to action following the New Year. They'll host Schoolcraft on Saturday (Jan. 4) at 3:00 PM following the women's contest which will begin at 1:00 PM.
