Women’s Soccer Advances to Region Championship for First Time in Program History

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College women's soccer team traveled to Wake Technical Community College on Tuesday, October 22nd for the Region 10 Semifinals. The Statesmen entered the tournament as the #3 seed and faced off against Wake Tech as the #2 seed. At the conclusion of the match, the Statesmen moved to 5-8-1 overall, punching their ticket to the Region Championship in upset fashion, for the first time in program history.

 

The match remained level through 29 minutes of play, but Shani Priestly changed that in the 30th minute, off a ball from Silvia Bower-Heeg, to take a 1-0 lead. Wake Tech got on the board five minutes later, to tie the game 1-1. Grace Pope sealed the win for the Statesmen in the 42nd minute with her unassisted, game-winning goal, as the second half remained scoreless, with Richard Bland coming out victorious

 

Emily Orn played all 90 minutes in the frame and was credited with nine saves on the day.

 

The Richard Bland College women's soccer team will take on #1 seed, Cape Fear Community College on Saturday, October 26th at 1pm for the Region 10 Championship. The winner of the tournament is named the Region 10 Champion and will travel to the Champion of Region 7(TN) and Region 17(GA) for the Atlantic District Tournament.  The winner of the district tournament will receive a bid to the National Tournament on November 17-23, 2024 at John Hunt Park and Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville, AL.
