Softball Splits with Grace Christian
Jayhawks win 11-8 in game one but lose game two 6-14.
Game 1:
Muskegon CC Jayhawks defeated the Grace Christian Tigers 11-8 on Tuesday.
Grace Christian took an early lead in the first inning with runs from Morgan Hall's single and Emma Balkema's groundout. Muskegon CC tied it up in the third thanks to a Kennedy Johnson single and a groundout by Grace Lewis.
The Jayhawks broke the game open in the fourth, scoring six runs on two hits, helped by an error that brought in two runs.
Delaney Vollmer earned the win, allowing 13 hits and eight runs (four earned) over seven innings while striking out two. Balkema took the loss, giving up eight runs (five earned) on four hits in three innings.
Lauren Merritt and Vollmer each had two hits for the Jayhawks, while Johnson and Megan Barmes drove in two runs apiece. Kaylee Jones stole three bases, and the team showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks. The Jayhawks are now 7-5.
Game 2:
Muskegon CC Jayhawks fell to Grace Christian Tigers 6-14 on Tuesday.
The Jayhawks took an early lead with a sacrifice fly by Grace Lewis, but Grace Christian responded with four runs in the first and steadily built their lead. Morgan Hall and Alyssa Wallinga led the Tigers' offense, combining for six RBIs.
Wallinga earned the win, allowing six runs (four earned) over six innings. Lewis took the loss for Muskegon CC, giving up eight runs (four earned) in 2.2 innings.
Taylor Ottinger and Andrea Romero had two hits each for Muskegon CC, while Kennedy Johnson drove in two runs. The team stole five bases.
Grace Christian totaled 13 hits and drew 11 walks, with Hall going 3-for-5 with four RBIs.
The Jayhawks are now 7-6. Next games will be held on Friday, March 21st at Delta College.
