From the Cyclones first shot of the game, they took the lead and controlled the ball all the way to an 89-54 victory over Elgin Community College.
Olivia Baxa started the first quarter with three three-pointers while the team held the Spartans to just five points. Although Elgin collected a string of buckets in the next quarter, Moraine Valley still led 40-22 at halftime.
The Cyclones continued to build their lead in the third quarter, getting ahead by 31 points at their peak after collective scoring from Shakila Brownlow, Deniza Fuentes, Jadea Johnson, Lily Hernandez and Robin Stevenson. The Spartans saw a 6-0 run early in the fourth quarter and a string of free throws in the last minute of the game, but it wasn't enough to catch the 30-plus point lead the Cyclones had built.
Brownlow led the offense with 21 points while adding eight rebounds. Johnson collected 19 points, 11 rebounds and six steals. Baxa finished with 15 points while Fuentes had 12.
