Jayhawks Overcome Slow Start in 63-58 Victory

JAMESTOWN, NY - The Jamestown Community College (JCC) women's basketball team made it five-straight wins and nine of ten with a 63-58 win over Sheridan College out of Canada.

Things didn't start looking like the Jayhawks were going to claim a victory, falling behind 11-2 less than three minutes into the game.

Jamestown closed the opening quarter on a 14-2 run to take a 15-13 lead to the break. Freshman Andrea Johnson scored all four of her points during the comeback.

The second quarter mirrored the start of the first, with Jamestown dropping those ten minutes 11-4 to trail 24-19 at the half.

The second half belonged to Jamestown High School product Alyson Canfield, who scored a game-high 27-points. Her layup and foul for a traditional three-point play evened things up at 30-30. The 27 are a new career-high the freshman.

JCC trailed by a pair entering the fourth quarter, where a three from Canfield made it 48-46, and Jamestown never looked back.

Jennica Berens and Mbali Mhlanga joined Canfield in double-digits with 12 and 13, respectively.

Mhlanga also pulled down 12 rebounds for a double-double.

The win moves JCC to 9-2 on the season.

Jamestown is right back on the home court on Wednesday when they host Cuyahoga Community College at 5:00 PM.
