Red Barons Hang On To Defeat Erie CC in Road Win

The Corning Men's Basketball team walked away with an 83-80 victory over DII JUCO, Erie Community College, showcasing impressive transitional scoring and a turnover generating defense throughout the game. Decoursey Corley would score 14 of his 18 total points in the 1st half, he finished with a season high, 6 steals. Sean Paige showcased himself immediately off the bench, adding two 3 pointers as the Red Barons would take a 5 point lead into halftime.

Freshman Guard, Cassius Moore, was dominant in the second half scoring all of his 18 points on 7-13 shooting while Ray Baugh recorded a near double double with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Sincere Smith played a crucial role both offensively and defensively, recording 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Siyani Arthur (11 points, 4 assists) and Shombe Jackson (5 points, 2 assists) led a steady attack from the point guard position. The Red Barons handed out assists on 17 of their 33 field goals. 

On defense, Corning kept Erie guessing by constantly changing defensive schemes that helped stifle Erie's offensive attack while causing a total of 17 turnovers from the Kats. Ibrahma Ba established a large presence in the paint by protecting the rim which led to multiple transition baskets. Ba contributed on the offensive end with timely buckets finishing the contest with 7 points.

"It was great to see our ability to score in multiple different ways. Whether it was in transition or in the half court, our team stayed disciplined and executed our offensive attack with efficiency. This was a whole team effort where frequent contributors allowed their teammates to step up and make winning plays" said Coach Sugamosto.

The Red Barons move to 4-1 on the season and will host visiting Columbia-Greene Community College on Friday, November 22nd, at 5:00 PM.
