Tribunes’ Season Ends in Hard-Fought Battle Against FLCC Lakers
The Monroe Community College Tribunes fell to the FLCC Lakers in straight sets, closing their 2024 season. Despite a valiant effort and a thrilling final set, Monroe came up short, finishing the year with a 10-13 record but showing promise for future growth and success.
BUFFALO, NY - The Tribunes fell to the FLCC Lakers in straight sets, ending their season. The Tribunes fought in a tough first set, losing close 25-19. The second set was much less exciting, with the Tribunes losing 25-16. In the third and final set, Monroe showed determination and conviction, forcing the match to a win by two scenarios, but unfortunately, the Lakers were able to pull out the 26-24 win and take the match.
The team struggled to find offensive consistency throughout the match, registering a collective .184 hitting percentage. However, standout performances from key players offered some bright spots.
Madalyn Robinson (Attica, NY) and Kylee Storch (Williamsville, NY) led MCC offensively, each contributing six kills. Robinson also added ten digs, showing her abilities on both offense and defense. For her part, Storch also recorded a .231 hitting percentage, one of the better rates for Monroe, along with eight digs and a service ace. Sydney Martin (Chittenango, NY) facilitated much of Monroe's offense with 13 assists while also leading the team defensively with seven digs. Greyeson McMaster (Elmira, NY) made her presence felt from the service line, delivering four aces, which kept Monroe competitive at critical moments.
The Tribunes end the 2024 season with a record of 10-13, with a 4-2 conference record. Monroe recorded 588 kills, 1063 digs, and 279 service aces on the season. Madalyn Robinson led the team in kills (187) and points (248.5). Sydney Martin led the team in assists (256), with Norah O'Connor second in that category with 183.
Coach Kelsey Kolpar and the rest of the coaching staff should be excited about the performance and growth of their team over the year and should look forward to next season with a roster primed to take the next step forward.
