Colts Final Regular Season Double Dual
The SUNY Orange Colts took on two very tough opponents in Monroe University - Bronx and Nassau Community College. First match is against Monroe University - Bronx, this match went the full five sets with neither team being able to earn an advantage over the other. In the first set of the match the Colts would lose by a score of 25-14 before responding in the second with a win of their own by a score of 25-17.
With a 1-1 score after the first two sets the Colts looked to take an early lead with a win in set three but came short falling to 2-1 through three sets after a 25-17 loss. With a 2-1 deficit the Colts were in need of winning set four in order for them to continue the match as they did just that, winning set four in an exciting 25-23 victory the Colts managed to keep the match alive as they headed into what was the fifth and final set of the match.
After a disappointing end to the fifth set the Colts end up losing to Monroe University 3-2 after a 15-7 score in the last set of the match and with a quick turn around the Colts will be preparing for Nassau Community College shortly after their disappointing loss.
In the match against the Express of Monroe University there were three athletes who were all over the court and gave the Colts their much needed spark. Sophomore Emily Deserto is joined by Freshmen Lily Noteboom and Grace Malzahn in an amazing performance.
Defensive Specialist #4 Grace Malzahn had a fantastic game finishing with 2 kills on 11 attempts, led the Colts in service aces and digs finishing with 6 service aces and 15 digs while finishing with 8 points
Outside Hitter Lily Noteboom found herself in a category of her own as she was responsible for 21 out of 22 assists the were recorded by the Colts. Noteboom also added 1 kill 1 service ace, 3 digs and 3.0 points.
Outside Hitter Emily Deserto finished at the team leader in kills finishing with 8 kills on 28 attacks. Deserto also added 1 service ace, 3 digs and 9 points.
In the match against the #1 ranked Nassau Community College the Colts unfortunately would lose their match against the Lions by a 3-0 sweep giving the Colts a 12-7 record through the regular season.
Losing set one by a close score of 25-22 the Colts were unable to maintain their momentum and would later crumble in defeat losing the next two sets by a score of 25-16 and 25-13.
Despite the unsuccessful weekend the Colts earned a spot in this years NJCAA Region XV National Tournament as they take on the the Tigers of Queensborough for a scary Halloween Night match. The Colts are currently are in the #6 spot in Region XV as Queensborough holds the #3 spot. Last time these two teams faced off it was the Tigers who came away with the victory, after the Colts won the first set they were unable to hold off Queensborough falling 3-1 on Saturday October 12th.
