
With a hard-fought, 61-58 win at Southwestern Michigan Wednesday night, the Marian University Ancilla Men's Basketball team moved to 6-2 in the MCCAA Western Division (17-6 overall), and now find themselves alone in second place in the division, two games back of Kalamazoo Valley (21-1 overall, 8-0 MCCAA).
While a tough shooting night limited a few key guys, Sophomore guard Ashton Oviedo stepped up in a big way from the bench. The reserve guard knocked down 4 of 8 attempts from beyond the arc and made all three of his charity tosses, on his was to 15 points, as he gave them quite the boost. He added 3 rebounds as well.
Sophomore forward Jayden Sanders (11 points, 7 rebounds), Freshman guard Matt King (11 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds), and Freshman guard Jordan Woods (10 points, 5 rebounds) joined Oviedo in double-figure scoring. Sophomore Tyshaun Grundy also had some big minutes off the bench, contributing 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and a pair of assists.
The Chargers return to action tomorrow, Saturday, as they host 3rd Place Glen Oaks (12-10 overall, 5-3 MCCAA). The game is the back end of a double-header with the Women's team, and tip time is scheduled for approximately 3:00 p.m. It is also "Sophomore Day", as between games we will honor all of our Sophomores for their hard work and dedication over these past two years.
