Lamar State College Port Arthur won 3 of 4 games this past weekend, splitting with Western Texas College and sweeping Midland College during the Coastal Bend College Round Robin in Beeville.

The Seahawks, who open the 2025 season 3-1, continue their pre-conference road run as they travel to the Mardi Gras Invitation in Youngsville, Louisiana this Friday and Saturday. On Friday, January 31, the Hawks face Southwest Mississippi Community College at 1 p.m. and Louisiana State University-Eunice at 6 p.m. On Saturday, February 1, LSCPA faces Northwest Florida State College at 12:30 p.m. and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College at 5:30.

Western Texas College 4, LSCPA 3

In the season-opener for both teams, a late push by Western Texas College left LSCPA one run short as three runs in the sixth and the winning run in the seventh pushed the Lady Westerners past the Seahawks for a 4-3 decision.

The Hawks showed up early at the plate, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding one more in the fourth. It wasn't enough to hold off the late rally by the Westerners, though.

Marisa Rosales, Jalise Martinez, and Haley Munoz each had a run-batted-in for the Seahawks with Sierra Perez doubling for the Seahawks as LSCPA collected seven hits in the game. Ramos had two stolen bases and Martinez added another.

Brylie Dartez started in the circle, throwing 5.1 innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits with three walks. Kendall Hurt took the loss after going 1.2 innings, allowing one earned run on two hits. She had three strikeouts in her appearance.

LSCPA 10, Midland College 7

It took an extra inning, but the Seahawks found their first win of the year in a three-run decision over the Midland College Chaparrals, 10-7. Tied 7-7 after seven innings, the Hawks took the lead for good in the eighth with Makayla Marquez hitting a one-out single to third. Ramos followed with a line drive to left field and managed to reach third with Marquez crossing the plate for an 8-7 advantage.

At the next at-bat, Rosales grounded to the shortstop and reached on a throwing error. Rosales reached second on the error and Ramos scored for a 9-7 lead. Salinas singled in the next at-bat, scoring Rosales for the 10-7 final.

Sierra Perez had two doulbes in a 2-for-3 performance for the Hawks with a run scored and a pair of RBIs, while Sydney Salinas also doubled in her 2-for-3 showing at the plate. Haley Munoz, who was 2 for 3 in the game, launched a shot over the fence in left for her first home run of the year. Munoz went 2 for 3 in the game with three RBIs, while Perez, Salinas and Rosales each had two run-scoring hits, and Ramos added another. Marquez and Ramos each had a stolen base.

Marissa Gonzales got the start in the circles and went five innings, allowing six earned runs on six hits with five walks before being relieved by Hurt, who worked a third on an inning. She was replaced by Brylie Dartez, who earned the win after going 2.2 innings, allowing just one hit and one walk to ensure the win.

LSCPA 12, Western Texas College 11

The Seahawks avenged their loss of a day earlier, taking a walkoff win over Western Texas, 12-11, on Saturday. By tournament rules, a runner was placed on second base, represented by Quinn Zaragoza for the Hawks. After a ground out that put Zaragoza at third, Ramos earned a walk to put runners at the corners.

Rosales came in and doubled to plate both Zaragoza from third and Ramos from first to clinch the win and a 2-1 season mark for the Seahawks.

Rosales finishec the game 4 for 5 with a double and three RBIs, while Ramos was 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs. Munoz was 2 for 2 and Karlie Ingle was 2 for 3 for the Seahawks as they collected 13 hits in the game. Rosales had two stolen bases, while Marquez, Ramos, Salinas and Perez each had one apiece.

Marissa Gonzales started the game in the circle, throwing 6.2 innings, allowing five earned runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts. Dartez earned her second win of the young season, allowing just one earned run on three hits over 1.1 innings of work.

LSCPA 4, Midland College 2

The Seahawks opened up their second game against Midland College, edging out to a 4-0 lead after two innings, then worked to hold off the Chaparrals for the two-run victory.

Zaragoza and Ingle each went 2 for 3 with Zaragoza and Salinas each collecting a double. Zaragoza and Rosales each had an RBI, while Ramos had two run-scoring hits.

Hurt went the distance in the circle, allowing just two earned runs on four hits with one walk and five strikeouts to even her record at 1-1.
