LCCC caps off first half of the season with dominant 93-37 win over the Wyoming All-Stars

TORRINGTON, WY – The Laramie County Community College women's basketball team closed their 2024 portion of the season with a convincing 93-37 win over the Wyoming All-Stars to finish the first half of the season 9-7 and give plenty of positive energy to the team as they head into the Christmas break.

All but one of the Golden Eagles were able to score in the game and Sabella Carro led the way with her second 20-point game in the last three, posting a new career high of 24 points on her way to her first double-double of the season, adding eleven rebounds and six assists.

It wasn't Carro who got the offense going, but the three point game instead as LCCC bombarded the All-Stars from deep, including a 3-3 start to the game from deep by Flora Lukow who finished the game 5-6 from beyond the arc with 19 total points.

By the end of the first quarter, the Golden Eagles had established a 21-7 lead.

The All-Stars rallied back in the second quarter and found their own shooter from deep as they closed the gap to 31-22 coming out of the media timeout before the Golden Eagles reeled off a 11-3 run to close out the first half and take a 42-25 lead into the break.

The second half saw a different team come out defensively for LCCC as they went on a 25-0 run to kick off the third quarter, beginning it 9-12 from the field and forcing multiple turnovers, which would be the case for much of the rest of the game on the way to 16 steals as a team.

The quarter ended with the Golden Eagles lead cut into again by a 9-0 run, but those would be the only points of the third quarter for the All-Stars and the lead was 67-34 as LCCC was now doubling up the opposition.

In the fourth, the wheels fell off for the All-Stars and LCCC took complete control, holding them to just three points through the final ten minutes as they cruised to a 93-37 win for their ninth of the season.

Kelly Megown joined Lukow and Carro in double figures for the game, finishing with 14 points and adding nine rebounds.

Marcela Pinedo Saavedra finished with a team high six steals, matching her career high, while adding eight points. Nuria Florensa tacked on nine points and was tied with Carro for the team lead in assists with six. Irelynd Barnes was the top performer from the bench, finishing with seven points and seven rebounds.

The team finished with a 44 percent clip from the field and as a group picked up 49 rebounds. They also were very efficient with the ball, only turning it over ten times in the game and that coming with 25 assists as a team.

With the win, the Golden Eagles are off until the start of the new year. Their next scheduled game is set for January 16th when they are scheduled to face Eastern Wyoming College at the Blue FCU RAC with a 5:30 opening tip schedule for the Region IX North Conference opener. That night is also set for the Esports National Championship Recognition, with a ring ceremony for the Rainbow 6: Siege and Call of Duty: Warzone national champion teams from the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 titles.
