Essex, MD- The CCBC Essex women's basketball team launched their season with an impressive 113-53 victory over Monroe University. This high-energy game displayed CCBC Essex's skill and team cohesion, which helped them to an early and dominating lead. The Knights excelled in both shooting accuracy and defensive strength, making this opener a solid start to their season.

CCBC Essex took control from the beginning, closing out the first quarter with a staggering 38-8 lead. Their aggressive offense and strategic ball movement allowed them to maintain a high shooting percentage, with the team hitting 50.6% of their field goals and 41.3% of their three-pointers over the course of the game. By halftime, CCBC Essex had a comfortable lead, scoring 65 points to Monroe's 16.

Key players in this win included Reghan Robinson, who stood out with 26 points, hitting an impressive 8 out of 12 three-point attempts. Her sharpshooting provided the team with a significant scoring edge, and she mentioned after the game, "The energy was what carried us the most through the game. I just had to shoot my nerves out, especially since it was my first college game." Robinson's confidence only grew as the game progressed, marking her as a player to watch this season.

In addition to Robinson, players like Kwashanti Holmes and Paige Smith contributed significantly. Holmes went a perfect 3-for-3 from the field and scored 10 points, while Paige Smith recorded 12 points and provided 5 assists, showing her ability to facilitate plays and distribute the ball. The team's bench was also productive, adding 60 points, which highlighted the depth and versatility of CCBC Essex's roster.

Defensively, CCBC Essex maintained control, forcing Monroe into 29 turnovers, which the Knights turned into 41 points. The team's rebounding was also a key factor, as they out-rebounded Monroe 42-27, allowing them to capitalize on second-chance opportunities. Monroe struggled to keep pace, shooting only 42.9% from the field and 25% from beyond the arc.

The fast-break opportunities were dominated by CCBC Essex, who used their speed to outscore Monroe in transition, effectively shutting down any chance for Monroe to narrow the lead. By the fourth quarter, CCBC Essex had established their largest lead of 63 points, showing no signs of slowing down and closing the game with a strong finish.

The Knights will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup against Harford Community College. With players like Reghan Robinson, Kwashanti Holmes, and Paige Smith in peak form, CCBC Essex is set to build on their season-opening success and continue showcasing their team's talent and energy.
