Cowboys Overcome Slow Start to Defeat Eastern OK State College in OCAC Play

Warner, OK- The Connors State College Cowboys kept their win streaks alive as they scored victories over Eastern Oklahoma State College in Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference action Monday night at Melvin Self Fieldhouse.

Again, starting slow out of the gate, the Cowboys turned it on in final 10 minutes of the first half on their way to a 78-42 win over the Mountaineers as Connors won its seventh straight to go 18-2 on the season and 7-1 in conference play.

The Cowboys had only nine points on the board and just a one-point lead in the first eight minutes of the game but outscored Eastern 25-16 the rest of the way to lead by 10 at the break and they never looked back as they built their lead to 30 points in the second half.

"We put ourselves in a hole that we have to dig out of in the first half of almost every game, so we've got to start games better," said Cowboy head coach Bill Muse. "We held them to under 50 points so our defense can answer the bell when it has to."

Omaha freshman Kevin Stubblefield again led the Connors scoring attack, getting 23 of his game-high 27 points in the second half to help the Cowboys pull away.

"Kevin played well again tonight as he has the past few games," said Muse.

Connors hits the Road on Thursday to Altus to take on the Pioneers from Western Oklahoma State College. Connors will be looking for revenge on the Pioneers Home floor after Western came into Melvin Self Fieldhouse to Open OCAC Play and get a Win on what was an emotional Night for the Cowboys and the Connors State College Community.
