Jayhawks Escapes Aquinas JV
Timely Defense Helps MCC Hold On For The Win
December 4, 2024
The Muskegon Jayhawks narrowly escaped Aquinas College JV 64-61 at Bartels-Rhode gymnasium. The Jayhawks were riding a high following their gritty victory against the Southwestern Roadrunners in Dowagiac last week, but unbeknownst to the Jayhawks another tight game was ahead of them. Made baskets were at a premium for both teams, and the Jayhawks lead by 11 at the break, 36-25.
Points were even harder to come by for the Jayhawks in the second half. The Jayhawks scored just 28 points in the second half, and only seven points in the last twelve minutes. Thankfully stingy defense led by Sophomore guard Darius Williams helped keep Aquinas JV at bay, and the Jayhawks held on to improve their record to 6-2. Williams- a typical scoring threat for the Jayhawks finished with a modest nine points but added a staggering eight steals and eight rebounds. Freshman big man Ny'Zhem Marshall lead the Jayhawks in scoring with 17 points and finished with seven rebounds and two blocks. Sophomore Joe Russau played the role of point forward for the Jayhawks and finished with 11 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
The Jayhawks now prepare for a battle against the 12th best team in the nation via NJCAA national rankings, Kalamazoo Valley Community College. The Jayhawks will match up with Kalamazoo on Saturday, December 7th at Bartels-Rhode gymnasium in Muskegon. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
