
The No.13 Kansas City Kansas Community College women's volleyball fell to No.10 Johnson County Community College Nov. 9 at Friends University in Wichita, Kan. in the Plains District B Tournament Final. The Blue Devils were one point away from taking the match to the fifth set as they were leading 24-19 in the fourth set against the Cavaliers. They were unable to get that point and lost the set which put an end to the match.
The Blue Devils fell to the Cavaliers in four sets with scores of 17-25, 25-23, 20-25 and 27-29. Mayah Pridgett led the team in kills with 10 from her 35 total attempts. Both Geme Ajekwu and Mercedez Brown recorded nine kills each. Veronica Rolando was responsible for 27 of the 35 assists and recorded one service ace. On the defensive side, Alejandre Aponte had a team-high 24 digs and Brown had 13. Nykeriah Allen and Ajekwu combined for 11 of the 20 block assists.
The Blue Devils will have to wait until Nov.12 to see if they will received an at-large bid to go to the 2024 NJCAA DII Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
