T-Bird (BB) Sweeps Saturday Series, Stays Tied for 1st in WJCAC

T-Birds sweep the Saturday series with Amarillo to maintain a tie in first place of the WJCAC standings with Midland College.

Game 3

T-Birds sweep the Saturday series with Amarillo to maintain a tie in first place of the WJCAC standings with Midland College.

NMJC shutout Amarillo College 5-0 in Game 3.

Jorge De Los Santos hit a solo shot as the second batter in the bottom of the first inning. Lane Arroyos added a sac fly to make the score 2-0 NMJC after the first.

Arroyos came back to the plate in the top of the fifth with the bases loaded and drew a walk to make the score 3-0 in favor of the T-Birds. NMJC scored in the sixth via a Casen Savage solo homer. The final run of the game came in the seventh when Julius Ramirez led the inning off with a solo shot to left.

The Thunderbirds went on to win the Game 3 over Amarillo 5-0.    

DH Julius Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Center fielder Casen Savage's only hit of the day was a solo homer. Second baseman Jorge De Los Santos was 2-for-4 with a solo homer. 

First baseman Lane Arroyos finished the day 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a walk. 

The T-Birds ended Game 3 with three homers and 11 hits. 

Donovan Becerra earned his fourth win of the year going 6.1 innings allowing three hits, no runs, and striking out eight. Becerra's ERA moves to 3.83 for the season. 

Game 4

NMJC took down Amarillo College 16-8 to win the series 3-1.

Julius Ramirez started the scoring in the first inning with a sac fly to center which scored a run to put the T-Birds in the lead 1-0. 

Casen Savage's 3-run homer in the top of the second pushed the advantage to 4-0. Jorge De Los Santos hit the second home run of the inning, a 2-run shot to left. Ramirez, the very next batter, hit the third home run of the inning to make it 7-0 NMJC. 

The Badgers scored four runs in the second to cut the lead to 7-4. De Los Santos' second homer of the day and third of the series drove in three runs to make it 10-4 NMJC. 

The Thunderbirds scored one run in the fourth and fifth innings and two runs each in the sixth and seventh to win in run-rule fashion 16-8.   

Second baseman Jorge De Los Santos went 4-for-5 with five RBIs, two homers, and two runs scored. Center fielder Casen Savage batted 2-for-4 with a homer, a double, three RBIs, and two runs scored. 

Shortstop Talan Barraza recorded two doubles, two runs scored, an RBI, and walk. Lucian Dixon was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.

DH Julius Ramirez was 1-for-3 with a homer, two RBIs, two runs scored, and two walks. Ramirez ended the series leading the NJCAA with 77 RBIs and No. 1 in homers for junior college with 20.

Brayan Orrantia went five innings striking out seven while allowing six hits and one earned run. Orrantia moves to 9-1 on the season with a 3.39 ERA and is No. 2 in the country in wins. Monty Bognar pitched one inning in relief allowing no hits. 

The Thunderbirds are tied with Midland College for first place in the WJCAC standings at 21-3. NMJC moves to 31-12 (21-3) and will face Howard College Friday, April 18 in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. MDT.
