
The Kansas City Kansas Community College softball team swept the State Fair Community College Roadrunners with scores of 4-3 and 11-1. The first game came down to the final frame as Abryelle Hill stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs. After an inside pitch to make the count 2-2, Hill was able to put her bat to the ball and find right field, scoring Sidney Sullivan for the walk-off winner.
In the first game, Ashton Russell was electric in the five-hole, batting 3-4 from the plate and recording her first RBI in a Blue Devil jersey. Both Sullivan, Hill and Kylie Vandervoort were responsible for the three other RBIs. Cassidy Reno recorded her first collegiate hit and Sydney Becker went 1-2 from the plate with one walk.
Alyssa Droge had a monster outing striking out 15 batters in her seven innings of work. That is now her career-high in a single game. She did let up three runs from the six Roadrunner hits.
In game two, the offense came alive scoring 11 runs in just three innings of play. Becker went 2-3 from the plate, walked once, had three RBIs and scored three times. Russell stayed hot from game one and recorded a team-high four RBIs. Kinlei Boley went 1-2 from the plate and had two RBIs. Sara Portela went 2-3 from the plate while scoring twice and hitting in one RBI.
Hanna Acree went the distance and let up just one run in her five innings of work. She struck out three Roadrunner batters and walked just one.
The next game for the Blue Devils is on Friday, March 2 as they take on North Iowa Area and Bryant and Stratton (WI) at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. at the KCKCC softball field.
