Christian Mikulski’s Big Day Leads Timberwolves to 16-11 Victory Over Jefferson Cannoneers
JEFFERSON, N.Y. — Christian Mikulski had a standout performance, driving in six runs on three hits to lead the SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves to a 16-11 win over the Jefferson Cannoneers in the first game of Friday's doubleheader.
Mikulski highlighted his day with a grand slam to center field in the fifth inning and a triple in the second, helping his team secure the win in a high-scoring affair.
SUNY Adirondack piled up 17 hits on the day, while Jefferson recorded five. The Timberwolves got on the board early, as Juan Cornelio tripled in the first inning to score two runs.
In the second inning, SUNY Adirondack exploded for seven runs on four hits. Riley Derenzo grounded out to bring in one run, Mekhi Smithwick induced a fielder's choice from Aiden Parslow to score another, and Mikulski tripled to drive in two more. Charlie Gendron singled in a run, and Jack Taylor capped the inning with a two-run home run to left field.
Jefferson responded with a four-run bottom of the second, highlighted by a grand slam from Anthony Celar to left field.
The Timberwolves continued to pile on in the fifth inning, scoring six runs on six hits. Derenzo walked to bring in one run, Mikulski's grand slam extended the lead, and Peyton Richardson singled in one more run.
Ben Viggiani earned the win for SUNY Adirondack, allowing five hits and eight runs (six earned) over four innings, while striking out four and walking three. Smithwick took the loss for Jefferson, giving up 15 runs (12 earned) on 11 hits over four and one-third innings, while striking out four and walking three. Owen Rowe made a relief appearance for SUNY Adirondack.
Mikulski, Richardson, and Gendron each tallied three hits for the Timberwolves. Cornelio and Derenzo also added multiple hits in the win. SUNY Adirondack turned one double play during the game.
Celar was the standout for Jefferson, driving in four runs with a 1-for-4 performance. Nick Spivey, Tyson Mushet, Oiram Williams, and Ryan Murnane each recorded one hit for the Cannoneers, with Murnane drawing three walks. Jefferson's aggressive baserunning led to six stolen bases in the game, with Braiden Bley swiping two.
The Timberwolves will return to action for the second game of the doubleheader against Jefferson later today.
