Stagnant Start Sinks Jayhawks in League Opener

BUFFALO, NY - Slow starts to games and second halves continue to befuddle the Jamestown Community College (JCC) men's basketball team as they fell to Erie Community College 98-80 on Saturday evening to open the league portion of the season.

JCC 14-2, less than three minutes into action against the Kats.

The Jayhawks would draw back to within six before the opening 20 minutes was half over thanks to back-to-back buckets from Ilyass Kaichi, who scored ten points on the day.

ECC counted with a 13-4 run to break things open going to halftime, with Jamestown trailing 53-37.

The deficit would grow to as much as 23 early in the second half.

A pair of JCC freshmen, Tamir Barrant and Robert Russel, tried to keep it close, scoring 20 and 15 points, respectively.

However, the Jayhawks couldn't close the gap that existed most of the game, with Erie taking a 98-80 victory.

The loss moves JCC down to 4-17 on the year, 0-1 in league play.

Jamestown stays in league action when SUNY Niagara comes to the JCC on Wednesday, January 29th, at 7:30 PM.
