BALTIMORE - Cecil College baseball took to the road for its second doubleheader in as many days, splitting the afternoon with the CCBC-Essex Knights.
The Seahawks stand at 11-12 (7-7 Region 20).
Game One - CCBC-Essex 2, Cecil 1
Cecil sputtured at the dish in game one, scoring just one run on two hits and a walk en route to a defeat.
The Seahawks gave up two runs in the third, but were held off the scoreboard by the Knights until the top of the seventh. With runners on first and third with one out, Brendan Aiken grounded into a fielders choice that scored Gio Malatesta. Couper Stala would strike out in the next at-bat to end the rally.
John Smith (2-1) struck out three but took the loss from the bump. Trent Wolf allowed one hit and punched out one in an inning of relief.
Game Two - Cecil 7, CCBC-Essex 4
The Seahawks plated seven runs off of 13 hits to get back into the win column.
Outfielder Chris Woods headlined Cecil's offense effort with his three hits. Gio Malatesta, Couper Stala, Christian Crutch, and Ben Campbell recorded two hits each.
After two scoreless frames to start the game, Stala extracted revenge for game one with a two-run blast to put the Seahawks on the board in the third. The Knights scored one in the bottom of the inning and both teams scored one run each in the fourth.
Cecil's offense utilized small ball in the sixth, scoring three runs on three singles. CCBC scored two in its half of the innings to pull within two, but an error in the seventh made the score 7-4 in favor of the Seahawks. Trent Wolf (Sv, 1) came out of the bullpen and gave up two hits, but retired the last two batters of the game via strikeout to seal the deal.
Starting pitcher Hunter Sipel (1-1) snagged the win on the mound, tossing aside a half-dozen Knights via K over six frames of work.
