
The Kansas City Kansas Community College baseball team played three games this weekend in Dodge City, Kan. and took two of the three games against the Dodge City Conquistadors. Saturday Feb. 22, the Blue Devils won 12-7, and then split the games on Feb. 23, 9-3 and 5-6. The one loss for the Blue Devils came off an extra inning, walk-off hit from Ben Longoria with two outs, scoring a runner on third base.
In the first game, the Blue Devils scored a run in the first four innings of the game and built up a 7-1 lead by the end of the fourth inning. Tanner Pachorek, Brady Kern, Frankie Santiago, Marcus Dierks and Braden Horn all recorded a two-hit game. Santiago recorded three RBIs as he hit a home run to help the Blue Devils. Horn hit two solo home runs, and Dierks hit one over the fence as well. Kern recorded two doubles in his first game of the season.
Bryson Vawter started and went five innings allowing just one run from the three Conquistador hits. He didn't walk one batter and managed to strike out five. Jake Titus entered the game in the sixth inning and let up four runs from the two hits and four walks. Jose Toledano, Avery Oravetz and Caden Howell finished the game and let up just one hit, four walks, three strikeouts and no runs.
For the second game, Pachorek once again recorded two hits and walked once. There were solo home runs from Freddie Nolen IV and Cade Parry while Braden Horn hit a two-run shot to solidify the win for KCKCC. Carter Towns recorded his second hit on the season with a two-RBI triple. The Conquistadors never led in the game and recorded seven hits.
Caleb Reed gets his second win as the starting pitcher throwing for three innings and letting up just one run from the five Conquistador hits. Reed also struck out five batters. Caleb Deer entered the game in the fourth innings and struck out four of the eight batters he faced.
For the third game, KCKCC fell behind early 4-0 but was able to tie the game after putting up two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Nolen IV hit a two-run home run, and both Kern and Santiago had doubles while combining for three RBIs. What was supposed to be a seven-inning game turned into a nine inning thriller. The Blue Devils failed to stop the Conquistadors from scoring as the catcher, Longoria hit a sharp line drive to right field and scored the runner on third base for a walk-off winner.
Gavin Killion threw for 5.2 of the 8.2 innings of play and allowed just one run from four hits. He also struck out three of the 20 batters her faced. Dylan Blazer recorded the loss as he let up the game winning run in the ninth inning. He allowed two hits, walked one batter and struck out two.
The next game for the Blue Devils is against Barton Community College at 12 p.m. Mar. 1 at the KCKCC baseball field for the home opener.
