"I couldn't be more proud of these guys tonight. We've gone through some tough times early in the year, but these guys came out and played a full game tonight. Our guys came out got punched in the mouth early and responded. Every time Northwest tried to get on a run, our guys would make a play and hit a big shot to keep the momentum. We had a lot of guys show a lot of growth and composure. I think a lot of that just comes down to them slowing themselves down, and playing at a pace in which they are more comfortable in. Another thing is our guys did a great job of not turning the ball over, as well as we did not take very many bad shots. We'll watch the film tomorrow, and get ready for a tough one on Thursday back in The Dog House." Head Coach Cody Hastings had to say after the road win.
The Rangers came out hot hitting their first four baskets of the game giving them a quick 8-3 lead before the Greyhounds got a timeout. ASU Mid-South responded with a 12-3 run of their own capped off by an alley-oop from Hugh McFarland to Davonta Tucker. After a couple scoreless minutes for the visitors, the Rangers would tie the game up at 15. Hugh McFarland would quickly put the Greyhounds back on top, followed by a 3 point shot from Santana Spivey. The Greyhounds would find themselves leading at the half 41-31.
The 2nd half got underway and the Rangers made it obvious on what they were trying to do, as they reached the bonus with 12 minutes remaining in the final half. The Greyhounds would push their lead up to 13 in the second half before the Rangers would continue to chip away at the lead. A couple timely 3's from Samuel Chapin and Jaxson Yancy would help the Greyhounds continue to kill any momentum the Rangers were hoping to gain. Santana Spivey and Hugh McFarland would both go to the free throw line under 30 seconds left and would connect on both of their attempts to ice the game for the Greyhounds.
Jaxson Yancy led the Greyhounds with 16 points. Santana Spivey with 14. Darren Wallace and Hugh McFarland both finished with 13 a piece, as McFarland also dished out a game high 8 assists. Samuel Chapin chipped in 9. Davonta Tucker and CJ Washington finished with 6 points a piece.
