Lady Jets win GCAA Championship; Lady Jets heading West.
The top ranked Lady Jets just proved to be too much in defeating the Bobcats and capturing the title 84-61. South Georgia Tech came into the tournament as the number one seed losing only once in conference play and that loss came at the hands of East Georgia.
In the first semifinal game, SGTC ended the season for Andrew 96-50 moving the Lady Jets to the title game. The second game, the Lady Bobcats eliminated the Lady Titans of Albany Tech 71-57 setting up the title game with both teams having more than 20 plus wins during the season.
Both teams started strong in the first quarter with both teams battling and SGTC finished the first quarter with a 22-18 lead. SGTC turned up the heat in quarter two holding the Bobcats to 12 points while posting 22 points, increasing the lead to 14 going into half with a 44-30 lead.
The Lady Jets expanded their lead in third quarter taking a 19 point lead into the final quarter. SGTC did what they do best and that was to wear down their opponent by continuing to increase their lead and outscoring the Bobcats 17-13 in the fourth and Jets finished with a 84-61championship win.
SGTC's Mio Sakano led all scorers with 24 points, Enola Papin had 21, Kaiya Carter had 18, GCAA Player of the Year Jemiah Gregory added 11. Celeste Scott led the Bobcats with 15 points, and Charlese McClendon contributed 12 points.
Mio Sakano was named the tournament MVP. Kaiya Carter was also named to the All-Tournament team from SGTC. Caylee Simpson and Kennedy Snead from EGSC, Ja'Kia Little from Albany Tech and Braniya Baker from Andrew and were the other members selected.
Next stop for the Lady Jets will be the NJCAA National Tournament in Casper WY.
