Miami Dade cruises past DME Academy
The Miami Dade Sharks delivered a commanding performance to defeat DME Academy 77-54, using a dominant third-quarter surge to pull away and secure a decisive victory.
The Sharks set the tone early, outscoring DME 22-16 in the first quarter behind Jazmyne Bynum's sharpshooting and Shameir Quimby's inside presence. However, DME Academy fought back in the second quarter, led by Sophie Locatelli, who finished with 16 points. Despite DME's efforts, Miami Dade held a narrow 38-36 lead at halftime.
Coming out of the break, Miami Dade's defense tightened, holding DME to just eight points in the third quarter. Cleaira Peterson dominated on both ends, recording 22 points and grabbing 16 rebounds, while the Sharks capitalized on turnovers to build a commanding 58-44 lead. The fourth quarter saw more of the same as Miami Dade added 19 points while limiting DME to just 10, sealing the win.
The Sharks showcased balanced scoring and contributions from their bench. Quimby tallied 19 points and six rebounds, while Bynum added 16 points and four assists. Kiara Harris chipped in 11 points, including three three-pointers, while reserves Michaela Lane and Abigail Alvarez combined for seven points and eight rebounds.
Coach Summons' squad will now take the week off before hosting Hillsborough Community College in their first conference matchup of the year. The game is slated for Monday, December 2nd at 5:30 PM.
