Miami Dade falls to Northwest Florida
The Miami Dade College Sharks faced a challenging matchup against the #2-ranked Northwest Florida State College Raiders, ultimately falling 80-58. The game began with a competitive first quarter, as the Sharks trailed 21-17, but the Raiders gained control in the second, outscoring Miami Dade 24-13 to take a 15-point lead into halftime. The third quarter proved pivotal, with the Sharks managing only eight points while Northwest Florida expanded their advantage to 62-38. Despite a spirited effort in the fourth quarter, where Miami Dade scored 20 points, the deficit was insurmountable.
Miami Dade's offense was led by Kiara Harris, who scored 16 points on an efficient 6-11 shooting, including three three-pointers. Shameir Quimby added 14 points, and KaMariya Simmons contributed nine points and 10 rebounds, though foul trouble limited her impact. Off the bench, Jazmyne Bynum provided a spark with eight points in just eight minutes. However, turnovers and shooting struggles plagued the Sharks, as they committed 24 turnovers and shot only 29.4% from beyond the arc.
The Raiders, on the other hand, delivered a well-rounded performance. Nevaeh Scott and Jade Ondineme led the way with 17 points each, with Ondineme dominating the paint, adding nine rebounds. Deborah Davenport chipped in 13 points and nine rebounds, while Sydney Bradley and Kamryn Corporan made significant contributions off the bench. The Raiders' efficiency was evident in their 47.6% shooting from the field and 71.4% conversion rate at the free-throw line. Their dominance on the glass, out-rebounding the Sharks 43-35, and their ability to capitalize on turnovers highlighted their strength.
The Sharks squad will look to bounce back tomorrow when they take on Western Wyoming Community College.
