The Lakeland baseball team played host to the Jamestown Jayhawks today at Laker Field and took both ends of the doubleheader by he scores of 15-7 and 6-5. In game 1, Nicholas Square had a day as he cranked two grand slams and cut a runner down from the catching position. The Lakers scored a run in the bottom of the first when Kaleb Corrin led off with a single. Ray Cowen followed with a fielder's choice that retired Corrin. Later in the inning, Wilfredo Ortiz scored Cowen with an RBI-double. The score would remain 1-0 until the top of the 3rd inning when the Jayhwaks took advantage of a couple of Lakeland errors to take a 2-1 lead. Lakeland wasted no time in regaining the lead in the home half of the inning. James LaVigne got things going with a 1-out single. LaVigne stole second before Josiah Cuesta worked a 2-out walk. The tandem would then do a double steal. The Jayhawks catcher would throw the ball into left field on the steal allowing LaVigne to score. The Jayhawks would then walk the bases loaded before Nicholas Square unleashed a grand slam to left field giving the Lakers a 6-2 lead. In the top of the 4th inning, the Jayhawks would score another run before Lakeland answered with 2 more runs in the  bottom of the 4th. Corrin would hit a lead off double and Ray Cowen followed with a walk. Lavigne would advance the runners with a fielder's choice. Corrin would then score on a wild pitch before Cowen was plated on an RBI-single from Cuesta giving the Lakers an 8-3 lead. The Jayhawks were not done yet though. In the 5th inning, Jamestown strung together a couple of hits with a couple of Laker mistakes to score 4 runs and making the score 8-7.
