Mississippi Gulf Coast broke a two-game losing streak in convincing fashion Thursday night, winning 69-48 at East Central.

"That's a great team win on the road," Gulf Coast coach Hope Adams said. "We controlled the tempo of the game from the tipoff."

The Bulldogs improved to 11-9 overall and 5-3 in the MACCC women's basketball standings. They're tied for fourth.

Katelyn Brinkley (Fr., Ridgeland/Ridgeland) led the way with 21 points, including 15 in the first half. Taelar Felton (Fr., Clinton/Clinton) had 15, and Teairra Lee (Fr., St. Martin/St. Martin) added 10.

"Katelyn Brinkley was able to give us a strong paint presence tonight," Adams said. "Having (Dekyra) Mitchell ease back in is a difference maker as well, Felton was able to push the tempo from the backcourt. I also feel we were more physical tonight."

The Bulldogs led 20-10 after the first quarter and were up 17 at halftime.

East Central falls to 4-13, 0-7.

Gulf Coast had eight players see action Thursday. The Bulldogs have been going through a tough patch with a slew of injuries.

"The goal is to keep our head above the water while we get healthy, and start peaking at the right time," said Adams.

Gulf Coast is back at Dantzler Arena on Monday when Hinds visits. Tipoff at Perk is at 5:30 p.m.
