Saints Earn Two Road Wins In Winter Haven at Polk State College.
Winter Haven, FL.
How it happened:
Game 1
Santa Fe won the first game of the doubleheader by a score of 8-3. The Saints got the scoring started in the second inning with a three-run homerun to left field by Jazmyn Thompson. Santa Fe added to their early lead in the following inning, thanks to an RBI double to right field from Brooke Markiewicz and a sacrifice fly for Olivia LaMeau, her first of three runs batted in for the game. In addition to Thompson and LaMeau's offensive production, Tegan Grizzard and McKenzie Jewell each had two hits for the Saints. In the circle, Ryleigh Bauer collected the win, allowing two hits and one run over three innings, walking three and striking out six Eagles. Belle Mancillas was awarded the save for the Saints' game one victory.
Game 2
The Saints won game two in even more convincing fashion, dispatching Polk State 10-0 in 5 innings. Santa Fe got the offense going quickly, scoring one run in the first off of a fielder's choice induced by Brooke Markiewicz. The Saints opened up the game in the third, scoring one run off of a single by Madison Conway. In the same frame, Olivia LaMeau hit a bases-clearing double, extending the Saints lead to 5-0. Santa Fe would conclude its scoring on the day with a five-run fourth inning, started off by a McKenzie Jewell two-run single. Karris Rhine then scored on a sacrifice fly and Conway placed an emphatic end on the scoring with a two-run home run to left field. In total, Conway and LeMeau each led Santa Fe with three runs batted in. The Saints were also active on the base paths, with Rhine stealing two of the Saints' three stolen bases for the game. In the circle, Ryleigh Bennett dealt a gem, giving up two hits and no runs over all five innings of play, striking out three batters and only walking one. It was a clean stat sheet for the Saints in the field, allowing zero errors.
The Saints are back in action on Tuesday, March 4 when they host Hillsborough Community College at home. Game 1 of the doubleheader will begin at 1PM EST, with game 2 scheduled for 3PM.
