
Northeastern Falls in A Chilly Home Opener to Colby Community College 5-4
Northeastern Softball had it's home opener on a very chilly Monday afternoon against Colby Community College. The Plainswomen ended up falling in the nail biting contest 5-4. Reagan Fehringer was named the DDC Player of the Contest. Fehringer went 7 innings, giving up 5 runs (two earned) on 7 hits, striking out 5 and walking one.
The Plainswomen gave up two runs in the top of the second inning, and another three runs in the top of third inning. Northeastern was able to close the gap in the bottom of the fifth inning to a one run difference, after scoring on a solo home run, a double and a single. It was just a little too late for Northeastern. They got a runner to second in the bottom of the seventh inning, but ended up lining out to the pitcher to end the game. Tatian Hunt hit the solo home run in the fifth to start off the scoring for the Plainswomen. Reina Roberts then doubled, scroing one run and Mikeayla Llamas singled, scoring two runs.
Fehringer started the game for Northeastern and ended up taking the loss. Llamas led the Plainswomen with two RBIs from the number nine spot in the lineup. Roberts, Isabelle Bencivenga, Llamas, Hunt and Addison Steele each collected one hit for Northeastern.
The second game on the day was suspended for a later date, due to the weather dropping below 25 degrees. That game will resume on February 12th when the Plainswomen head to Colby for a second double header matchup. That game is currently tied 8-8 in the top of the fifth inning.
Northeastern will be back in action again on February 8th, as they travel to Goodland, KS to take on Fort Hays Northwest Tech at 1:00 PM
