Delta College Falls to Alma College in 9-0 Shutout
ALMA, Mich. – The Delta College softball team struggled to generate offense in a tough 9-0 loss to Alma College on Wednesday, March 12. Despite a solid defensive effort in the later innings, the Pioneers were unable to recover from Alma's explosive second and third innings.
The Scots took control early, plating three runs in the second inning before breaking the game open with a six-run third. Delta starting pitcher Geena Gauthier battled through four innings, allowing eight hits and seven earned runs while striking out five.
Delta's offense was limited to just two hits, both coming off the bat of center fielder Hannah Hycki, who also recorded the team's only extra-base hit with a double. The Pioneers struggled to put runners on base, striking out eight times and drawing just two walks.
Defensive miscues also proved costly, as Delta committed three errors in the game—two by shortstop Izabel Lathrom and one by first baseman Jolie Buschlen.
Despite the lopsided score, Delta settled in defensively after the third inning, holding Alma scoreless for the remainder of the game. However, the Pioneers were unable to mount a comeback, as Alma's pitching staff kept them off the scoreboard through seven innings.
