#2 Highlanders blast by Blinn; new time set for Sunday game
The second-ranked McLennan Highlanders continued their roll through the Battle on the Bosque Saturday with a pair of wins over the Blinn Buccaneers.
The Highlanders defeated the Buccaneers 13-1 in the opener with Kynlei Chapman getting the win in the circle.
McLennan scored seven runs in the bottom of the first. Tehya Pitts singled and Ally Thompson walked. Trinity Allen then singled to score Pitts, and Ellie Loveless tripled to score Thompson and Allen. Macie Jansky doubled, scoring Loveless, and Madison Garcia singled. Aynsli Lawson followed with a triple to score Jansky and Garcia, and Lawson scored on a ground out by MJ Nicholson.
Two more Highlander runs scored in the second. Allen was hit by the pitch and scored on a triple by Mickayla Tosch. Tosch then scored on a sacrifice fly by Jansky.
Blinn's only run came in the third inning. Daniela Lopez drew a lead-off walk and Kayden Harms was hit by the pitch. Darian DeLeon reached on an error, loading the bases. Lopez then scored on a sacrifice fly by Cadence Wiese.
The final four McLennan runs came in the bottom of the third. Nicholson reached on an error, Pitts singled, and Thompson drew a walk to load the bases. Allen singled to score Pitts, and Loveless walked to reload the bases. Tosch followed with a singled, scoring Thompson and Allen. Jansky then singled, scoring Loveless.
Game two was back and forth battle with McLennan getting the 18-12 victory. Natalie Klenda picked up the win in the circle.
Blinn scored three runs in the first. Halle Scheel reached on an error and DeLeon singled. Wiese also singled, scoring Scheel. Both runners advanced and DeLeon scored on a passed ball. Wiese then scored on a fielder's choice by Harms.
The Highlanders took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the first. Thompson walked, Allen was hit by the pitch and Loveless walked, loading the bases. Tosch followed with a double to score Thompson and Allen. Lilli Piersons then singled to score Loveless and Tosch.
The Buccaneers regained the lead with six runs in the second. Kacie Dudensing was hit by the pitch. Grace Bracken and Scheel both walked, loading he bases. DeLeon also walked, scoring Dudensing. Wiese also walked to score Bracken, and Annie Beckendorf followed with a grand slam.
Four McLennan runs scored in the fourth. Alyssa Moreno walked and Thompson singled. Allen also walked, loading the bases. Loveless walked, scoring Moreno, and Thompson scored on a sacrifice fly by Tosch. Piersons then doubled to score Allen and Loveless.
McLennan tied the game with a run in the bottom of the third as Lawson walked, advanced to second on a ground out by Moreno and scored on a double by Thompson.
Blinn took the lead again with two runs in the fourth. Beckendorf singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Bailey Boetjer. Harms singled and T'Era Garrett doubled, scoring Boetjer. Dudensing followed with a fielder's choice to score Harms.
The Highlanders took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Tosch doubled and advanced on a ground out by Piersons. Pitts singled and Lawson followed with a three-run homer.
The Buccaneers tied the game with a run in the top of the fifth as DeLeon doubled, stole third and scored on a ground out by Wiese.
McLennan claimed the lead for good with five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Tosch walked and Piersons singled. Piersons stole second and Tosch scored on an error. Pitts walked and Lawson followed with a three-run homer. Garcia singled, stole second and advanced to third on an error before scoring on a ground out by Thompson.
The final Highlander run came in the bottom of the sixth as Tosch walked, advanced to second on a fielder's choice by Piersons and scored on a double by Jansky.
