The Triceratops (16-9) bounced back in a big way, defeating the Cats of Erie Community College (11-12) 75-59 to split their New York road trip. After a tough loss to Niagara, the Tops came out determined to leave New York with a win, playing with both grit and passion. The game was tightly contested in the first half, but the Triceratops took control after the break, showcasing their toughness and fortitude.
Coming off a challenging shooting performance against Niagara, the Tops shot an impressive 47.5% from the field while stifling the Cats, holding them to just 38.6% shooting (including a mere 25% from beyond the arc). Christopher Brownlee led the charge with 22 points, shooting 50% from the field and behind the three-point line. Devonte Greene continued his stellar play, recording another double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Saevion Brown contributed with 11 points and two boards, helping to fuel the team's balanced attack while connecting on 505 of his attempts.
The Triceratops entered halftime with a narrow four-point lead, but whatever Coach Aaron Nixon said in the locker room resonated with the team. They came out firing in the second half, outscoring Erie 42-30 to seal the win. Adisa Molton continued to set up his teammates, finishing with four assists for the fifth consecutive game he has led the team in assists.
While the victory was sweet, the New York swing was a chance for the Tops to avenge a tough loss earlier in the season and measure themselves against a top-15 opponent (Niagara). Coach Nixon has repeatedly emphasized that these high-level games in the final stretch of the season are essential preparation for the upcoming regional tournament. With the win, the Triceratops solidified their hold on second place in the conference.
