Men's Basketball:

 

Last Time Out: The Lakers took down their second straight NJCAA DII Top 10 opponent, defeating No. 8 St. Clair County 75-66 on Monday (Dec. 16) on the road. Mid is now 8-3 overall heading into their final game of the 2024 calendar year.  

James Wright and De'Antre Griffin each had a double-double, with Wright recording 19 points and 11 rebounds and Griffin posting 18 points and 12 rebounds. The Lakers trailed 37-32 at halftime, but came out of the locker room and outplayed the Skippers in the second half, outscoring the hosts 43-29 in the final 20 minutes. 

SCOUTING LANSING: LCC enters Wednesday night with an overall record of 8-5. The Stars most recently dropped a 95-85 contest to Mott Community College on Saturday (Dec. 14). Prior to that defeat, they had won two straight games over Wayne County and Muskegon. Zander Woodruff will be the player to watch for Lansing, as he averages 32.4 points per game. The Stars coaching staff is led by former CMU player Mike Ingram.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Lakers outrebounded the Skippers on Monday night 41-34. Mid also made 12-of-15 free throws while SC4 was just 7-of-11 from the charity stripe. Wright's double-double was his fifth of the season, while Griffin reached double digits in points for the fifth straight game. Jayden Hardiman added 16 points and seven rebounds on Monday, while Vynce Overshown scored 12 points off the bench. 

 

Women's Basketball:

Last Time Out: No. 10 Mid defeated Kalamazoo Valley 62-56 on Friday (Dec. 13) night. The Lakers led 18-11 after the opening quarter, but scored just nine points in the second compared to 16 by the host Cougars, making the score 27-27 at halftime. 

The game continued to be close in the second half, with Mid taking a 43-42 lead into the fourth quarter. The Lakers remained poised however in the fourth quarter, outscoring KVCC 19-14 in the final 10 minutes to earn the road victory. With the win, the Lakers moved their record to 9-2 overall and won their fifth straight game. 

SCOUTING LANSING: The Stars enter Wednesday's matchup having won six straight games and sporting a 10-2 overall record. LCC won their most recent game on Saturday (Dec. 14), defeating Mott Community College 82-47. Kara Bartels and Brianna Clark lead the team in scoring with 14.7 and 14.5 points per game, respectively. Bartels also leads the team in rebounding with 8.9 per contest. LCC is led by head coach Megan Hudson. 

SCOUTING GRCC: The Raiders enter Saturday with a 1-4 overall record, their only victory being a 56-41 win over Kirtland on Dec. 4. GRCC was defeated by Muskegon 53-40 in their most recent game on Saturday (Dec. 14). They'll play Cuyahoga Community College on Friday (Dec. 20) night before heading to Mount Pleasant on Saturday. Tianna Daye leads the team offensively with 14.8 points per game while also grabbing seven rebounds a contest. Ava Schultz averages 10.7 points and team high 8.7 rebounds per game. Head Coach David Glazier is in his ninth season with the program. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Chloe Watson led the Lakers on Friday night, scoring 22 points while also pulling down six rebounds. Watson reached double figures for the ninth time this year, as she leads Mid in scoring with 15.7 points per game. Rachel Resio added 12 points, six rebounds, and six steals, while Delaney Seaman posted 12 points in 19 minutes off the bench. Mid shot 68.2% from the free throw line while KVCC shot only 50%.
