Warner, OK- Three-point shooting took center stage Monday night at Melvin Self Fieldhouse as the Connors State Cowboys bounced back from a Tough Road trip last thursday with an Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup with Seminole State.
The Cowboys maintained their lead in the conference race with a 72-62 win over the Trojans, thanks in large part to the 3-point shooting of freshman Aric Walls who canned five from beyond the arc and a total of 21 points. Connors also did well inside with the play of big man Ed Daniels who led the team with 22 points.
"Aric can shoot it and give us some offense which we desperately need," said Cowboy head coach Bill Muse. "Ed played exceptionally well and scored in a lot of different ways. As it has all season, defense really carried us tonight giving up just 62 points."
An 8-2 run to start the second half staked the Cowboys to a nine-point advantage but Seminole went on a 13-5 spurt to make it a one-point game with just under 15 minutes to play. But over the next 10 minutes the Cowboys outscored the Trojans 19-9 to lead 62-51 and Seminole never got closer than seven the rest of the way.
The Cowboys upped their record to 19-3 and 8-2 in conference play while Seminole fell to 15-9 and 5-5.
Connors will play at Murray State on Thursday before the Cowboys play a single game against Central Baptist College next Monday at 6 p.m. and then both teams return to conference action the following Thursday entertaining Northern-Tonkawa.
