YUMA, Ariz. – The Arizona Western Matadors Men's Basketball team (3-2) bounced back to wrap up play at the Region 1/18 Challenge with a 63-60 win over Utah State Eastern (2-2) on Saturday afternoon in Thatcher, Ariz., at Guitteau Gym.
Boubacar Diatta scored a layup and was fouled for a three-point play with 3.5 seconds remaining on a baseline drive and a perfect pass from Darnell Childs to give the Matadors a 63-60 lead, hanging on to beat the Golden Eagles.
The Matadors had an arly lead in the first half but saw their lead evaporate thanks to a late Utah State Eastern run, heading into the locker room trailing 34-29 after the first 20 minutes.
Arizona Western outscored the Golden Eagles 34-26 in the second half as Diatta scored seven of his 13 points in the final 20 minutes to help lead the comeback for the Matadors.
Matt Anglo once again finished the game as the Matadors' leading scorer, scoring 15 points while Lucca Reinehr scored nine points off the bench and Edwin Suarez led the team in rebounds with seven.
The Matadors are back in action on Tuesday, November 12, taking on AZ Sol at 7:00 pm at the House Gymnasium. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors while Arizona Western College students get in free with their AWC ID.
