DCCC Takes 59-51 Loss to Williamson in Home Opener

Chester, PA—Bringing back a 2-1 record after its first three games on the road, Delaware County Community College started a five-game homestand with a 59-51 loss to Williamson College of the Trades.

"We didn't get the outcome we wanted against a tough defensive team," said DCCC Men's Basketball Head Coach Dwayne Saunders. "Our effort was high and we shot 41% overall, but we were also 2-16 from three and had 24 turnovers."

"You can't beat anybody like that," he stated. "The difference in turnovers was the difference in the game. We have to protect the ball better."

Jaquan Fisher led the DCCC Phantoms with 18 points in 28 minutes on 7-8 shooting. "Our bigs are playing well," Saunders said, pointing to efforts by Fisher and Tahmeire Manning. He also gave a nod to Amir Wilson as "one to watch" and to Jabree Martin for his consistency. Martin tallied in all five statistical categories, including 10 points.

Omar Davis delivered seven rebounds and a couple of steals in the first 18 minutes of the game, but did not return to the game after tweaking an ankle during a strong scoring play shortly before halftime. "Omar gave us great on-the-ball defense and rebounding in the first half," said Saunders.

The 2-2 Phantoms host Bergen County Community College Saturday, November 16, at 2:00pm. A 7:00pm tipoff against Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology on Tuesday, November 19, will be Student Government Association Spirit Day. FiDonce Gym is the home of DCCC basketball at 215 E 21st St, Chester, PA.
